The Honourable Mark Carney is Canada's 24th Prime Minister, having been elected Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and sworn into office in March 2025. He leads a government focused on strengthening Canada's economy, safeguarding national sovereignty, and advancing prosperity across all regions.
Born in Fort Smith, Northwest Territories, and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Prime Minister Carney holds a Bachelor of Economics from Harvard University and both a Master's and a PhD in Economics from the University of Oxford.
He began his career in global finance before entering public service, where he served as Governor of the Bank of Canada during the 2008 global financial crisis, helping guide Canada through a period of significant economic uncertainty. In 2013, he became Governor of the Bank of England, where he played a critical role in navigating the economic implications of Brexit.
He later served as the United Nations Special Envoy on Climate Action and Finance, advocating for sustainable economic systems and climate resilience.
As Prime Minister, he is focused on economic growth, job creation, and ensuring that Canada remains a strong, secure, and globally competitive nation. Hon. Carney and his wife, Diana, are the proud parents of four children.
